Active Tutor Time Programme

The tutor time programme at Alvaston Moor Academy is a fundamental part of the school day. Ensuring students are ready to learn.

During Tutor Time our aims are to :

  • Build strong relationships with form tutors, as this is the first point of pastoral contact for many students.
  • make friendships with other students in the year group.
  • Develop AMA Way habits to secure their progress on the AMA journey
  • provide regular communication between the tutor, students and parents/carers.
  • promote new opportunities that are available for our students.
  • encourage students to actively think about their role within the wider world and how they can contribute to society safely and confidently

Tutor Time Programme:

The Tutor Time is a purposeful and varied programme that includes :

The Student Bulletin

We know how important communication is and ensure that students receive weekly messages from enrichment clubs, teachers, safeguarding and notices about upcoming events that they can become involved with.

Literacy

Reading is an essential pillar for success, and we ensure that students have the opportunity to read a variety of carefully selected extracts that link to PSHE topics. Students read a range of both fiction and non-fiction extracts and are then encouraged to explore their reading and what it means to them through ‘book talk’.

PSHE

Once a week students participate in their PSHE learning. We take pride in delivering adapted lessons from our converged curriculum which students respond to in their tutor time booklets. This enables students to demonstrate their engagement with all tutor time activities and document their learning over time.

Careers

Each week students take part in a careers activity which encourages students to take part in work experience opportunities, engage with Unifrog and consider a variety of routes into work.

Assemblies

Once a week, each year group will have a whole school assembly. Assemblies are again linked with PSHE topics: Healthy living, living in the wider world and relationships but also, Fundamental British Values and needs identified within both the school and local community. We ensure that we always allow for one responsive week per half-term that enables us to address emerging needs.

Events

We sometimes dedicate our tutor time to exciting events that take place during the academic year, and it is important that we take time to showcase these events and raise awareness. For example – Children in Need, Remembrance Day and White Ribbon Day.
