March 2025
Dear Parents and Carers
Following confirmation on National Allocation Day, we are delighted to welcome you and your child to Alvaston Moor Academy for our new Year 7 intake in September 2025.
We hope to work closely with families over the next five years to ensure that your child enjoys their time at secondary school and works towards achieving their potential in the many different aspects which make up school life. In this way, they will be as prepared for entrance to higher education, high quality employment and future careers of their choice as any other student in the country.
We are highly ambitious for our students and the academy. As a smaller but thriving secondary school, we have the real ability to work with every student as an individual to achieve excellent outcomes by the end of Year 11. This may mean ensuring that a student achieves a full set of top-level GCSE grades or supporting specific learning needs but in every case, it is about maximising the potential of every individual.
Our great team of students, staff, parents and governors expect the very best from our school. We want everyone to be proud to be a part of Alvaston Moor Academy and in turn our wider community to be proud of us. As a result, we have the highest expectations of professional standards in our staff and excellent conduct by our students. We are proud of our traditional approach to uniform, homework and behaviour standards. Through exceptional teaching, outstanding leadership and the highest quality pastoral care, we want our students to feel safe, to feel supported and to realise their potential.
As summer approaches, you’ll receive plenty of important information about your child’s journey toward their first day at Alvaston Moor Academy. As part of our transition programme, we’ve planned a series of events designed to help both you and your child feel prepared and excited to join the AMA family in September 2025. You and your child are warmly invited to our Induction Evening on Monday 30 June 2025. Additionally, your child will have the opportunity to participate in our three transition days on Tuesday 1 July, Wednesday 2 July, and Thursday 3 July 2025, providing a valuable chance to settle in and get to know the academy.
We will shortly be sending out an email with a link for you to complete your child’s information. This link will also include consent forms for biometrics, media, and enrichment days/activities. To ensure you receive all important updates, please make sure we have your most up-to-date email address by contacting the academy on alm-admin@alvastonmoor.co.uk.
Included with this letter, you will find the following documents for your reference:
- How to Apply for Free School Meals – Please apply online as soon as possible.
- Morleys Schoolwear Price List
We will be hosting a uniform sizing event at the academy during the transition day on Thursday 3 July 2025. Further details will be sent out in advance, allowing you to book a sizing appointment.
As always, we recognise that the transition from Primary to Secondary School will raise questions and queries along the way. Our partnership together begins with our transition programme, which aims to support you all through the transition process. Ahead of September 2025, we are hoping to be able to meet with you in person and support you all in whatever way we can. Please also take some time to look at our website, which is updated regularly, and is an important communication method.
Please be assured of our commitment to helping all our new students prepare and settle as well as we possibly can. If you have any further queries, please contact Mrs Selby via email: mselby@alvastonmoor.co.uk
Translations of this letter are available on our website.
Yours sincerely,
Miss G Tyers
