Students in Years 7-11 are entitled:

  • To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point.
  • To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through curriculum evenings, acts of worship, group discussions and taster events.
  • To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.

At Alvaston Moor Academy we are committed to informing our students of the full range of learning and training pathways on offer to them, we are happy to consider requests from training, apprenticeship and vocational education providers to speak to students.

Alvaston Moor Academy also proactively seeks to build relationships with these partners as we plan our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme activity throughout the school year to ensure that providers have multiple opportunities to speak to students and their parents across years 7-11. The purpose of these relationships are to offer information on vocational, technical and apprenticeship qualifications and pathways. Alvaston Moor Academy ensures that Academy staff involved in personnel guidance and pastoral support are up to date on their knowledge of these post 16 pathways, through a programme of Continuing Professional Development.

Opportunities for providers to speak with students may include assemblies, employer and provider engagement events or opportunities to speak with students and parents on a one-to-one basis supporting GCSE, post 16 option choices. Alvaston Moor Academy’s CEIAG programme is monitored for quality and impact by the academy’s Senior Leadership Team and the Local Governing Board. This includes the monitoring of access to and opportunities to engage with, technical, vocational and training providers.

Management of provider access requests

Opportunities for access

Our provision includes various opportunities for students to access a range of careers and employability events. These are mainly integrated into the schools careers programme and curriculum. These events are therefore delivered internally, with contribution from external providers where appropriate.

A provider wishing to request access should contact Mr Richard Leach (Alvaston Moor Academy Careers Lead), via the school contact details or   This will support the academy and provider to identify the most suitable opportunity within the careers programme. In the first instance, requests by providers should be sent to the  with a minimum of 6 weeks’ lead time. All requests will be considered on the basis of: staffing availability to support the activity, clashes with other planned activity, trips or visits to the academy, interruption to preparation for examinations, or rooming and space availability to host the activity.

The academy policy on safeguarding sets out the school’s approach to allowing providers into school as visitors to talk to our students.

Once visits have been agreed, the academy will provide appropriate rooming to facilitate the visit, along with any equipment requested by the provider, where it is available.

Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature to be displayed in the careers and guidance section of the academy’s library.
